Lesson Learned...

For the past few days the little lady has had a slight stuffy/runny nose. One Sunday night it hit full force and Monday was even worse. Needless to say we were worried and took her in to see her pediatrician. She got checked out and was all clear, she just had a cold! On Tuesday she woke up with a fever and severe congestion. Since the little lady's been born she does not... repeat DOES NOT do well with oral medication. We've tried to give her Children's Tylenol, Motrin (now that she's older) and every time she's thrown it up. I don't know if it's a texture thing but it just doesn't work for her. She's also not a very good solid food eater. She's very interested in whatever Sean and I are eating and will open her mouth really wide for a bite, but when it comes to gerber food, oatmeal, rice cereal, or anything processed or pureed forget it. At first I was concerned about her eating habits but her pediatrician reassured me that there was nothing to worry about being that she's a whopping 22 pounds. He said that if she eats two bites of something awesome, one bite awesome, not bites... awesome. He also said that once she can eat real food (what Sean and I usually eat) she'll be a lot better. She knows how to swallow and eat because she's eaten an entire container of pears and apples before, so I just think she knows what she want and it's not baby food!

Anyway, back to the lesson learned.... So the little lady's fever was escalating and I'd tried to give her Tylenol with no success. It was about 10:30 in the morning and I had to go to the bathroom. I usually put Hannah in the middle of our bed and hurry and use the restroom and wash my hands with no problem but this day was a different story. I put her down, went into the bathroom, was washing my hands (a totally of maybe 45 seconds) when I hear this thud and then screaming. My heart sank. I ran over to my little baby on the floor crying hysterically. I picked her up, checked her, no blood no instant bruisng... then she threw up all over me. I was terrified. My first thought was "oh great I'm a horrible mother who's let my child get a concussion". I cleaned her up, cleaned myself up, (by now she was acting completely normal) and then I checked her pupils to make sure they were dilating. They were! Hurray! Of course I was worried all day. Since the incident she'd nursed, taken a nap and been just fine. Then in the late afternoon her temperature spiked, I tried to give her Tylenol (more throw up and no success) and she was very very unhappy. I stripped her clothes off to see if it'd change anything. Nothing.

By the time Sean got home she was napping again but woke up a half hour later. Then she nursed and fell asleep again but woke up screaming. I was so worried it had to do with her falling off the bed so I had Sean give her a blessing. A beautiful blessing. I'm so grateful he's worthy to do so. I don't know what I'd do without him! We finally decided to take her to the ER.

When we got there they checked her out and she was just fine. They said that a two foot fall is normally ok with babies when they fall unless they fall onto a sharp object etc. Plus Hannah had been acting quite normal. She still had a fever though so they gave her a Tylenol suppository(genius). I didn't even know they made them for babies! Soon enough her fever went down, she starting acting like her bubbly self and we went home. We gave her a bath, fed her, and she was fast asleep.

I felt like the worst mom ever leaving her on the bed and having her fall. Needless to say.... I've learned my lesson. I'm just so thankful she's ok. I've always said to myself " I'm never going to let my baby fall off the bed"... yeah cross that one off my list. I just can't say enough how grateful I am that she's ok, minus a cold.
